Mind Museum: First world class Science museum in the Philippines.

 

Being one of the Philippine representatives to the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012, TIP Mileage Team got the chance to visit the Mind Museum on its soft-opening last February 18, 2012. Mind Museum is the first world class science museum in the Philippines. The TIP Mileage Team members were privileged to tour the museum’s facilities and different science galleries for free.

Science was presented through 5 main stories as the exhibition spanned a range of nature’s elements – Technology, Universe, Atom, Earth and Life.

The TIP Mileage Team along with other Philippine teams was welcomed by Shell Eco-marathon Philippine Team delegation organizers in a wide-open space prior to entering the five galleries. Team members were stunned at how the Introductory hall, the ten most beautiful experiments, and the Hall of Philippine Science all served to initiate their museum experience.

The Technology Gallery Hall: The Showcase of Human Ingenuity

This exhibition is located on the second floor overlooking the other four galleries. The TIP Mileage Team members appreciated the manner at which the gallery presented technology as a means of putting into life the human values and not as mere gadget, tool or an industrial advancement 

The team was amazed by how the first Printing Press works.

The Universe Gallery Hall: Its beginning and majesty

Fascination with the outer space grew as the TIP Mileage Team members explored the exhibition that featured a gallery on how all of life found its atomic beginnings in the stars in space. The team members were also visually transported in graphic history of humankind’s quest into other parts of the solar system.

The Atom Gallery Hall: The Strange World of the Very Small 

This gallery was indeed a treat to the Team members as they got to experience first-hand elemental forces that engineering students are so familiar – gravity and electromagnetism as well as a presentation of the counterintuitive quantum world. 

The Earth Gallery Hall: Its Story Across the Breadth of Time

A replica of the first T-REX exhibit in the country along with other unique exhibits that focus on the earth and nature were shown in this gallery hall. Team members were educated on the natural history and how the Earth was inhabited.

The Life Gallery Hall: The Exuberant Varieties of Life

The TIP Mileage Team members were made to explore the exuberance of a living planet in all its forms. The gallery featured exhibitions about the human DNA, heart, skin, taste buds and the defining exhibit in the museum, the human brain. 

The Mind Museum indeed envisioned a unique and very Filipino exhibition, a defining legacy that gives the next generation the wings to fly against the challenge of a future shaped largely by service and technology.

            The TIP Mileage Team members truly enjoyed and are thankful to the Shell Eco-marathon Philippine Delegation organizers for giving the team free access passes for the Mind Museum.  It was an impressive exhibition and definitely surpassed the team members’ expectations. It was indeed an opportunity for the team to seek tips and pointers which are relevant and related to how the team members can improve the entry technical design needed in bagging the Innovation Award for the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012.

            The Mind Museum is one manifestation that the Philippines can be as competitive and be at par with other countries in every aspect. Experiencing the interactive features, seeing the different museum galleries and enjoying it, the team is sure that the public will love and enjoy going to the Mind Museum when it formally opens on March 16, 2012.

Science Fair Exhibit 2012 presents Insignia.

Over the years, the Science fair Exhibit has always been an anticipated TIP anniversary highlight. The vigorous and vibrant celebration itself encourages the students to excel in their respective academic expertise. The exhibit itself is an avenue where students are able to showcase the outputs of their hard work, sleepless nights, mind blowing trial and error and numerous check and balances.

         Part of this year’s Science Fair Exhibit is a booth showcasing Team Symmetry’s vehicle entry, Insignia. Students were allowed to observe and criticize the previous vehicle. Comments and suggestions were solicited so as to help the TIP Mileage Team members come up with a competitive vehicle.

 The Science Fair Exhibit also became an avenue where an open-recruitment for the TIP Mileage Team vacant designations and positions was conducted.

TIP Mileage Team

Consisting of students from different fields who are products of grit, TIP Mileage Team challenges to build and design a most fuel efficient vehicle that will run in farthest distance with smallest amount of fuel in the upcoming Shell Eco-marathon 2012 on July 4-7 which will be held in Malaysia. Its three-wheeled vehicle project named “Symmetry 2.0” under the “Prototype Category” intended to maximize fuel efficiency through its innovative design and concept. This project proffers each member to create an actual application of their learnings and build what we call harmony with their co-members. The team is comprised of different designations which composed of members with expertise. 


Aspirations
TIP Mileage Team supports the global advocacy such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions and increasing the energy efficiency of vehicles. This initiative drives us to develop a more ideal and efficient vehicle in our modern era, and in order to minimize or lessen the effect of Global Warming.  In addition, through Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2012, we are equipped with passion and interest to create the best fuel consumption in the upcoming event. We want to showcase our ingenuity through this competition and make a stand in the entire Asia. 

The Logo
As the Philippines’ official delegate in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012, we are bringing the pride of our nation.  We choose the Philippine Eagle and the Philippine National Flag as part of our official logo to embody the nation’s symbolic features and culture. 
Nowadays, the Philippine Eagle is critically endangered in our forests mainly due to massive loss or destruction because of deforestation in their habitats. As part of the advocacy in protecting and conserving the Philippine Eagle, TIP Mileage Team shows its full support in promoting and advertising the awareness in saving the Philippine Eagle. In addition, the existence of the Philippine Flag in our logo will make our team easily to distinguish what country we are signifying. 

TIP Team Symmetry’s Insignia heats up in SEM 2011 Malaysia

Seven teams, comprising the country’s best and brightest engineering students, from the six of the Philippines' top engineering universities, the TIP Team Symmetry was one of the country’s official contingents in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2011 last July 6-9 at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. With their vehicle’s name “Insignia,” the Team Symmetry represented the Team Philippines in the International Competition, dragging with them their own design of “energy-efficient vehicle.”

History of Shell Eco-Marathon

The Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2011 is an annual competition which is held by the Shell to create a new alternative energy-efficient vehicle based on EES criteria (Economical, Eco-friendly andSafety). It started in 1939 at the Shell Research Laboratory in the United States as a friendly wager between scientists to perceive who could obtain themost miles per gallon from their vehicles. As of these humble beginnings, Shell Eco-Marathon Europe began in 1985 in France, running almost 25 years in Europe. Last July2010, the first Shell Eco-Marathon in Asia was launched, a testimony of their flourishing events in Europe and America.

Tougher team in the upcoming SEM 2012

Team Symmetry learned a lot from the last competition and made the team more prepared for the upcoming Shell Eco-Marathon 2012. The said competition catered right field for actual applications where the members of the team are able to knock into their potentials.
